Introduction
I’m Sebastian (Seb) Hickman, an ML scientist at ECMWF. I work on the WeatherGenerator project, building a large-scale model for the Earth system, trained on terabytes of observations and reanalysis. Before starting at ECMWF, I did a PhD at Cambridge, supervised by Alex Archibald, Paul Griffiths and Peer Nowack. My PhD looked at modelling ozone and climate with causal ML. Previously, I read Natural Sciences, graduating in 2020.
In the summer of 2024 I was an intern with David Rolnick at Mila, where I worked on learning causal representations of climate model data with deep probabilistic models. During my PhD I also visited Martin Schultz at FZJ.
Please do contact me if you would like to talk. You can find my CV here.
I may keep a list of interesting content. This always makes me chuckle on other people’s websites - why do people want to share the random things they think are interesting?
Actually that sounds fun.
